Mark Zuckerberg Visits Mar-a-Lago After Trump Threatened Him With Imprisonment
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg visited Mar-a-Lago on Wednesday, Stephen Miller confirmed to Fox News.
Politico’s Natalie Allison tweeted that she was told Zuckerberg had just been spotted at President-elect Donald Trump’s home in West Palm Beach, Florida. Later, on Fox News, Brian Kilmeade asked Miller about the report.
“Can you confirm that?” Kilmeade asked.
“Yes, that’s correct,” Miller replied. “And Mark Zuckerberg has been very clear about his desire to be a supporter of, and a participate pant in, this change that we’re seeing all around America, all around the world with this reform movement that Donald Trump is leading. Mark Zuckerberg, like so many business leaders, understands that President Trump is an agent of change, an agent of prosperity.”
Afterward, Sara Fischer of Axios reported that Trump and Zuckerberg dined together.
“It’s an important time for the future of American Innovation,” a Meta spokesperson told her. “Mark was grateful for the invitation to join President Trump for dinner and the opportunity to meet with members of his team about the incoming Administration.”
In August, candidate Trump threatened Zuckerberg with imprisonment if the Meta CEO “does anything illegal” in the 2024 election.
Less than a month later, the New York Times published an article titled “Mark Zuckerberg Is Done With Politics.” The piece noted that in his 20s, Zuckerberg weighed in on various issues such as “immigration, social justice, inequality, democracy in action.”
But over the last few years, “a very different Mark Zuckerberg” has emerged, the Times said:
In conversations over the past few years with friends, colleagues and advisers, Mr. Zuckerberg has expressed cynicism about politics after years of bad experiences in Washington. He and others at the top of Meta, the parent company of Facebook, believed that both parties loathed technology and that trying to continue engaging with political causes would only draw further scrutiny to their company.
As recently as June at the Allen and Company conference — the “summer camp for billionaires” in Sun Valley, Idaho — Mr. Zuckerberg complained to multiple people about the blowback to Meta that came from the more politically touchy aspects of his philanthropic efforts. And he regretted hiring employees at his philanthropy who tried to push him further to the left on some causes.
In short — he was over it.
The article added that “Mr. Zuckerberg is declining to engage with Washington except when necessary.”
It also reported that Zuckerberg spoke with Trump via phone twice over the summer. The tech billionaire declined to comment to the Times.
“So, we’ll see what comes of that,” Miller told Kilmeade. “And, Mark, obviously he has his own interest and he has his own company and he has his own agenda. But he’s made clear that he wants to support the national the national renewal of America under President Trump’s leadership.”
