Former President Donald Trump boasted on Friday that the head of the Teamsters labor union accepted his invitation to speak at the Republican National Convention in mid-July.

Sean O’Brien, the General President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, has accepted my invitation to speak at the RNC Convention in Milwaukee. Our GREAT convention will unify Americans and demonstrate to the nation’s working families they come first,” Trump posted to his Truth Social platform, adding:

When I am back in the White House, the hardworking Teamsters, and all working Americans, will once again have a country they can afford to live in and be respected around the world. Sean, I look forward to seeing you represent the Teamsters in Milwaukee. Together we can Make America Great Again.

O’Brien made headlines last year for nearly coming to blows with Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) during a Senate hearing.

“Greedy CEO who pretends like he’s self made. In reality, just a clown & fraud. Always has been, always will be. Quit the tough guy act in these senate hearings. You know where to find me. Anyplace, Anytime cowboy,” O’brien had posted on X before appearing before the committe Mullin sits on.

“Sir, this is a time, this is a place. You want to run your mouth. We can be two consenting adults. We can finish it here,” Mullin told the labor leader last November.

“Okay, that’s fine. Perfect,” O’Brien responded.

“You want to do it now?” Mullin shot back as he stood and began taking off his wedding ring. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) intervened and told Mullin, “Stop it. No, no. Sit down. Sit down! You’re a United States senator!”

“General President Sean O’Brien asked to speak at both the RNC and DNC, and we are very happy former President Trump has extended this invitation,” a statement from a Teamsters spokesperson read on Friday. “Our 1.3 million members represent every political background, and their message needs to be heard by as wide an audience as possible, and that includes all political candidates running for office.”

President Joe Biden and Trump, his 2024 opponent, are both actively courting the Teamsters’ endorsement, which was once anathema to the conservative movement.
