Duck Dynasty Star Appears in Vitter Ad: ‘He’s Made Some Mistakes, But Who Hasn’t?’

Louisiana Sen. David Vitter (R) is enlisting Duck Dynasty star Willie Robertson to help with his gubernatorial campaign.

In a new campaign ad, Robertson references a 2007 incident in which Vitter contacted a Washington, D.C., prostitute, saying, “I know he’s made some mistakes, but who hasn’t?”

The ad is a follow-up to a Monday spot in which Vitter flatly admits that he failed his family. It was seemingly in response to a brutal video released by his opponent, State Rep. John Bel Edwards (D), the week before.

That ad claimed Vitter “answered a prostitute’s call minutes after he skipped a vote honoring 28 soldiers who gave their lives in defense of our freedom,” later slamming Vitter for choosing “prostitutes over patriots.”

The new ad, titled “David and Willie,” highlights a familiar theme for Vitter’s campaign: how he accepted responsibility for his actions and asked for forgiveness. “What defines us in life is how we get up and earn redemption,” Vitter says in the ad. “Where we are as a state is needing to get up based on strong conservative principles, and that’s what I’m leading with.”

In a debate on Wednesday night, which aired at the same time as the Fox Business Network/Wall Street Journal Republican presidential debate, Vitter and Edwards engaged in heated personal attacks on each other, sparring in particular over the use of “trackers” to monitor a candidate’s campaign events.
