Biden Speaks to Reporters About Second Trump Assassination Attempt, Says the Secret Service ‘Needs More Help’
President Joe Biden spoke to pool reporters on Monday a day after the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
Biden’s first comment was “Thank God the president’s okay” before stating that the Secret Service “needs more help.” When asked by a reporter exactly what he meant by that, he explained that it could mean more personnel, but it was up to the Secret Service to decide:
Thank God the president’s okay. I think we’ve got a full report so far. We’re going down there tonight. But one thing I want to make clear — the service needs more help. And I think that Congress should respond to their needs if they in fact need more services. So that’s what we’re going to be talking about.
He added: “I think we need some more personnel. I think they may need — they may decide whether they need more personnel or not.”
The FBI announced an investigation into the second foiled assassination attempt on Trump, which occurred on Sunday while Trump was golfing in Florida. The Secret Service were able to stop would-be gunman Ryan Wesley Routh before he fired any shots. Palm Beach County Police said during a press conference following Routh’s arrest that he’d been hiding behind a bush with an AK-47 rifle with a scope as well as a GoPro camera.
