Former President Bill Clinton, who was impeached over his lies about and obstruction of an investigation into an extramarital affair he had with a White House intern during his presidency, called Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake “physically attractive” while campaigning for her opponent in Arizona on Thursday.

Clinton paid Lake the compliment while making the case for electing Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), the Democratic nominee for Senate in the Grand Canyon State.

“And one of the things we have to do is elect the man who just introduced me? And I thought, you know, this is like a beautiful microcosm of the campaign that Kamala Harris is running for president,” began Clinton.  “You got a person that grew up under sometimes challenging circumstances, who made something of his life running against someone who is physically attractive, but believes that politics is a performance art. And where, like JD Vance, he has to be prostrate before the master.”

It is unclear as to whether Clinton was suggesting that either Trump or Vance is also physically attractive.

Lake, who first rose to prominence as the GOP nominee for governor in 2022, is expected to lose her race against Gallego handily despite the fact that Donald Trump is the favorite to earn Arizona’s electoral votes in the presidential race.

While Clinton was impeached over his affair with Monica Lewinsky, he was not ultimately convicted by the Senate. He has also been accused of sexual harassment by Paula Jones and rape by Juanita Broaddrick.
