‘I’m Still Younger Than Donald Trump’: Bill Clinton Hits Ex-President Over Advanced Age

Former President Bill Clinton implied former President Donald Trump is too old to run the country during his much-anticipated speech Wednesday at the Democratic National Convention.

In an election that was largely defined by questions of age when 81-year-old President Joe Biden was still running for a second term, Clinton went there while addressing a packed crowd at the United Center in Chicago.

Clinton celebrated Biden for dropping his reelection bid in July and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris and went as far as to compare him to George Washington. Clinton also praised Biden for his term in office and added:

And then he did something that is really hard for a politician to do. He voluntarily gave up political power. And George Washington knew that him and he did it.

And he set a standard for us serving two terms before it was mandatory. It helped his legacy. And it will enhance Joe Biden’s legacy. And it’s a stark contrast to what goes on in the other party. So I want to thank him. For his courage, compassion, his class. His sacrifice. His service. His sacrifice. Joe Biden, thank you. He kept the faith and he’s infected a lot of the rest of us. Now let’s cut to the chase. I am too old to gild the lily. Two days ago, I turned 78. The oldest man in my family in four generations, and the only personal vanity I want to assert is I’m still younger than Donald Trump.

To applause, Clinton then praised Democrats for officially nominating Harris and her running mate Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

In another apparent reference to Trump’s age, said Clinton, who is two months younger than Trump. “Now, one of the things that I noticed over my increasingly long life is that a presidential election is unique. In several ways. First of all, it is the greatest job interview for the greatest job in the world. Secondly, the Constitution says we the people get to do the hiring. And the third thing is that every four years, we get to change the requirements for the job.”
