Trump Spox Claims Trump Doing ‘Hostile Interviews’ As Debate Prep — As Trump Faces Softballs From Ex-Aide

Trump National Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News host Jesse Watters that former President Donald Trump is doing “hostile media interviews” as debate prep — while Trump was being grilled by his ex-campaign manager on Newsmax in the same hour.

President Joe Biden and Trump are set to debate on June 27 in the earliest general election presidential matchup ever, with Jake Tapper and Dana Bash moderating. Leavitt was kicked off CNN on Monday when she refused to stop attacking the debate hosts.

On Tuesday night’s edition of , Leavitt had a much freer hand, as she and Watters mocked and attacked President Biden in a segment previewing the debate. Watters asked about the “inside strategy” of Trump’s debate prep:

JESSE WATTERS: The inside strategy of the Trump Prep. We know Joe’s in a cabin in the woods doing God knows what, with 16 advisers and Barack Obama breathing down his neck. What is Donald Trump doing to prepare?

KAROLINE LEAVITT: President Trump is continuing with his very busy schedule. Over the past week, he has given hours long speeches to crowds of thousands in three different cities. He’s met with policy advisers to talk about the issues that matter to Americans. He’s taken questions directly from Americans at a cheesesteak shop in Philly on Saturday afternoon.

So he’s continuing to engage in hostile media interviews with the press over the next couple of days, like he always does. Hosting private meetings. Raising money, is continuing with the campaign because he’s well-prepared, so he doesn’t need advisers to drill his talking points into his brain.

In the very same hour, Trump was being interviewed on Newsmax by his own former campaign manager-turned-cable host Corey Lewandowski, who asked tough questions like “If you have the opportunity to serve again as the 47th president, United States, sir, what is your plan to prevent illegals from continuing to invade our country and kill Americans?”

The network did run a banner during the interview that read “Newsmax accepts the 2020 election results as legal and final” — a by-product of defamation lawsuits.
