‘I Don’t Have Any F*cking Money’: Dan Crenshaw Drops Wild Rant When Asked If He’d Vote For Stock Trading Ban For Congress
Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) dropped a wild rant on Tuesday when he was asked by The Free Press if he would support a bill to ban members of Congress from trading stocks.
“Yeah. This is like number 1000 on my priority list of things to care about. This is one of those stupid things that I’ve been dragged through the mud on,” replied a surly Crenshaw, adding:
You know how much fucking money I have ever had in the stock market? About $20,000. And I’ve been dragged through the mud on this as if, like, there’s some insider trading. And I said, I just sent a letter to Fox News. You know a threatening letter from my lawyers threatening them with defamation because they because Jesse Watters had basically insinuated that I was insider trading. Of course, it’s not true.
You’d be more surprised how little information we have. This is one of those bills that like some of course– Yeah, people support it. Yeah, sure. Okay, who cares? Because I don’t have any stock really, anything in the market anyway.
Are there a couple of cases like, where in Nancy Pelosi has some very suspicious timing of her trades? Yeah, that has happened, but nobody else can point any other examples. So, sure. Yeah, why not? Don’t let us trade stocks.
NPR reported on the bipartisan move in the U.S. Senate to ban stock trading among members and noted that it grew out of the aftermath of the financial crisis. “Insider trading laws apply to lawmakers, but the push to require more transparency about their investments came after the 2009 financial crisis. Several lawmakers made large profits after trading financial services stocks before major banks began to fold. Those trades raised questions about whether they were profiting from information they learn on congressional committees,” wrote NPR.
The bill to ban trading, called The Ethics Act, has been co-sponsored by the unlikely combination of Oregon Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley, Michigan Senator Gary Peters, Georgia Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff, and Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley.
Crenshaw continued by slamming House members’ salaries, “How about, how about we’ll just keep whipping ourselves? How about we don’t make any money either? How about like, just cut our paychecks? I haven’t gotten a pay raise since 2008. Even a COLA (cost-of-living adjustment) increase. So. Yeah. No, actually, no. Yeah, this is a great idea. Let’s make Congress a place where only the millionaires can actually afford to do the job. This is a wonderful idea.” He added:
Let’s just keep doing that because– And then some, some. It’s always some member, right? Who like senses the populist energy and then mirrors believing that this is what’s going to help me connect with the people. Because what do the people want? Or I mean, they want an easy button.
All my problems will be solved if there’s no stock trading. My problems will be solved if there’s term limits. Yeah. But if you think about any of these things for five minutes, you know, you might quickly come to a different conclusion. Now I again, would I vote for it. Yeah, sure. Who cares? Who cares? Again, it doesn’t matter to me because I don’t have any fucking money to put in the stock market, unlike the bullshit headlines that have been written about me.
