Charlamagne Tha God backed pulling President Joe Biden from the election if he has a poor performance at Thursday’s CNN debate with Donald Trump.

Charlamagne, host of SiriusXM’s The Breakfast Club, joined The Young Turks to break down the state of the election ahead of the debate, and the author and radio host held nothing back in his criticism of Democrats. Charlamagne has faced pushback from some, including on The View, for refusing to endorse the president despite his concerns about Trump.

Speaking with Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, Charlamagne called Trump a threat to democracy, but described Democrats as “kind of like the party cried wolf,” arguing they are deploying the same rhetoric for years and against a number of Republican candidates.

“If he’s really such a threat, why aren’t they acting like it?” he asked about Trump.

The radio host argued there would be a different ticket if Democrats were taking the threat of a second Trump term seriously.

He predicted Democrats will “eventually fall flat on their face” and accused the party of using “scare tactics” to keep voters away from third party candidates and progressives like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).

Uygur eventually asked if Democrats should “pull” Biden from the race if he flops at the debate, arguing however that the the bar is set “low” for his performance as far as praise from the mainstream media is concerned. Uygur himself was previously a presidential candidate, suspending his campaign in March.

“If he does flop so hard that even the media can’t deny it, should they pull him?” Uygur asked.

“I would say yes. The reason I would say yes is you know the base is going to show up, but it’s about those independents and those hypothetical swing voters, those people who may be undecided, it’s about them,” Charlamagne said.

He also pointed to the youth vote as a potential problem for Biden, saying Democrats “dropped the ball” on messaging when responding to college campus protests across the country demanding a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.

“I don’t know how you flip that switch come November. When I see throughout the country, especially in Michigan, people voting non-committed for Biden, I don’t know how that mentality changes in November,” Charlamagne argued.

With Trump “sucking all of the air out of the room,” he said, there’d be “no choice” but to pull Biden if Democrats want to avoid the “risk” of Biden.

“I think you would probably have no choice but to pull him if you really, truly care about democracy,” he said.
