Clay Travis Slams Climate Protestors for Storming PGA Tournament: ‘Make People Not Support Their Cause’
OutKick’s Clay Travis believes climate protestors did harm to their own cause when they stormed a PGA tournament this past weekend.
On the 18th hole of the final round of Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut, protesters suddenly rushed onto the golf course. Play was temporarily stopped as officers brought tackled the protestors before being detained and removed from the golf club.
The presence of climate protestors has become a common sight in professional sports. Last July and last September, they were removed from tennis tournaments for similar demonstrations.
Hours after the incident at the Travelers Championship, Travis appeared on America’s Newsroom to call out the protestors for their tactics.
“I continue to see that the climate protestors are managing to make people not support their cause,” he said. “I think this came on the heels of defacing Stonehenge, right? I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a group consistently protest, and decrease the amount of support they get as a result of their protest, like these climate protestors have been doing for the past 15 or 20 years.
“I think most people — particularly sports fans and certainly golf fans — shrugged it off and said, ‘This is ridiculous.’ These are the same people that have been gluing themselves to basketball courts, as well. I don’t think any sports fans have had their minds changed based on these protests so far.”
