Fox’s Dana Perino Brings Up Her Own Press Secretary Past When Colleague Questions Whether Jen Psaki Is a Real ‘Journalist’
Fox News anchor Dana Perino cited her own press secretary past when a colleague began questioning whether MSNBC anchor Jen Psaki is a “journalist.”
Psaki recently pushed back on comparisons between herself and former RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel. McDaniel’s employment with NBC ended after a matter of days and public outcries from multiple MSNBC hosts, including Psaki.
On America’s Newsroom on Wednesday, Bill Hemmer and Perino were joined by commentators Kennedy and Tom Shilue to discuss McDaniel’s brief position with NBC.
Kennedy questioned whether McDaniel would be replaced with a “diet Republican,” citing Joe Scarborough as an example at the network, and Perino predicted the “media bias story” would “unite” Republicans.
“The other thing they don’t realize nothing unites the Republicans like a media bias story. So congratulations on your own goal,” she said.
Shilue then honed in on Psaki.
“Jen Psaki, is she a journalist? Does she — look at her job description and performance. Closer to Edward Murrow or what she used to do at the White House?” he asked.
“Well, you could ask the same about me,” Perino said.
Perino joined Fox News in 2009 as a political commentator. She co-hosts America’s Newsroom and The Five. Prior to this, she was White House press secretary in George W. Bush’s administration. Shilue argued in his colleague’s favor by arguing Psaki is defending “talking points” from the same administration she previously served in.
“Yeah, but — I will ask you,” Shilue said. “Is your job indistinguishable from what you did at the White House? I don’t see you sitting and defending Republican talking points and if you look at you on The Five, we’re getting your opinion. Everyone knows your opinion comes from someone who came from the Republican Party.
“There’s no hiding it. That’s true. Fair enough,” Perino said.
“You passed!” Shilue said.
