Fox News’s Bill Hemmer Goes Full Sub-Zero for New Fox Nation Series ‘Battle of the Arctic’
Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer traveled to the Arctic Circle to embed with the U.S. Navy in a new special set to air on Fox Nation.
The Fox streaming service will release Hemmer’s new special, Battle of the Arctic, on Wednesday. The special will show the anchor learning how military operations are conducted at -29 degrees Fahrenheit.
Hemmer gives viewers an inside look of how the Navy operates in extreme weather conditions with Operation Ice Camp 2024, a three-week research voyage in the Arctic region, according to a press release from Fox Media.
The America’s Newsroom host also boarded the USS Hampton, a nuclear submarine equipped with the ability to crack through Arctic ice when coming to the surface.
“[It’s] an opportunity to see the kind of life they have for three months at a time in a nuclear submarine, which evades, hopefully, all sorts of detection on behalf of Moscow or Beijing or anyone else,” Hemmer said of his experience on the submarine.
Hemmer spent over 24-hours interviewing crew members and learning about their daily lives aboard on the submarine, including how different nations are competing for natural gas and oil in the region.
The documentary also showcases interviews Hemmer conducted with Navy officers who discussed how China and Russia are competing with the U.S. over the abundance of resources in Earth’s final frontier. Moreover, Hemmer discusses how the melting of ice has impacted the resources and claims to the Arctic.
One Navy admiral reportedly told Hemmer, “Russia considers this their backyard, and they would love nothing more than to take claim to the entire Arctic region. It’s full of resources. The trade routes are opening more and more each year. They consider this a place that they have dominance.”
