Fox News host Dana Perino speculated President-elect Donald Trump could push the country to make a major land “purchase” at some point in his second term on Tuesday’s edition of The Five.
Trump referred to Canada as a “state” and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as its “governor” on Tuesday morning while addressing trade.
“It was a pleasure to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account. “I look forward to seeing the Governor again soon so that we may continue our in depth talks on Tariffs and Trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for all!”
On Tuesday, the panel on The Five discussed Trump’s apparent trolling of Trudeau when Perino speculated Trump could seek to expand the country.
Co-host Joey Jones read Trump’s Trudeau social media post and commented, “Nobody trolls better than Donald J. Trump. The president-elect is once again flexing on Canada and Trudeau.
Jones asked Perino, “Dana, is this funny, like maybe it’s an inside joke from the dinner, or is he trolling him, and what’s the larger message?” Perino replied:
I think it’s funny and I imagine that Justin Trudeau also thought it was funny. And it probably will help their relationship. Because if you can tease somebody and they can be teased – and maybe Trudeau teases back a little bit. But we usually do predictions at the end of the year on a show and we’ll have that coming up and I usually am pretty good at them.
But I’m going to make a prediction before that show, and I thought of this this afternoon. I actually think that the United States might make some sort of purchase. I don’t know, not Canada, but there might be some sort of like big real estate purchase in the next four years.
Jessica Tarlov chimed in and asked, “Greenland?”
In August 2019, Trump made international headlines when he proposed buying Greenland from Denmark – an idea the country’s leaders had no apparent knowledge of.
“It’s just something we’ve talked about,” Trump told reporters. “Denmark essentially owns it. We’re very good allies with Denmark. We’ve protected Denmark like we protect large portions of the world, so the concept came up.”
He added, “Strategically, it’s interesting. And we’d be interested. We’ll talk to them a little bit. It’s not number one on the burner, I can tell you that.”
