Fox News’ Dana Perino Confronts Harris Campaign Comms Director Over Early Voting Numbers: ‘Is It a Sign of a Lack of Enthusiasm?’
Fox News’ Dana Perino confronted Michael Tyler, the communications director for Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign, on Tuesday, asking him if the early voting returns in key states are “a sign of a lack of enthusiasm” for Harris.
After playing a montage of a murderer’s row of analysts — including former Democratic strategists like CNN’s David Axelrod — expressing concern over the Harris campaign’s standing going into election day, Perino asked Tyler to react.
“I want to hear your points about early vote in Pennsylvania, because Republicans have turned out,” she said. “Are you confident that that is just a change in voting behavior or is it a sign of a lack of enthusiasm for the Harris campaign?”
“Listen, we feel good about what we’re seeing in Pennsylvania and across the battleground states. I think when you look at the early vote data, yes, there has been a mode shift because Republicans, they used to disparage early voting and claim it was fraud. They’ve now embraced it and have encouraged their voters to do so. So you’re seeing a little bit of a mode shift,” he began. “But we are also hitting our benchmarks in states like Pennsylvania and across the country where lower propensity Democratic target voters have been voting throughout the early vote period.”
He continued:
But we’re not resting on our laurels. That’s why over the weekend, we were knocking on over 3 million doors across the battleground states, a million and a half doors in Pennsylvania alone, 90,000 plus volunteers across the battleground states. And that is to hit our target voters, the voters who we know are going to be voting for vice president Harris. But it’s also an opportunity, a final opportunity for us to reach these late breaking undecided voters who have been moving towards Vice President Harris by a double digit margins because they’ve seen the split screen in front of them down the stretch of this campaign where you have Vice President Harris pledging to be a president for all Americans, regardless of your party affiliation so that we can bring people together to solve our common problems. And they’ve seen Donald Trump sort of spiral into the worst version of himself. Instead of offering people solutions down the stretch of this campaign, has spent his time lobbing insults, and airing his personal grievances, and making it clear that when he walks into the Oval Office, it’s not going to be with the to do list, as the vice president will, but it will be with his enemies list in hand, so consumed with his own grievances that he’ll never offer solutions to the American people. And I think that’s why you see so much increased energy and enthusiasm behind the vice president down the stretch here. Today is our final opportunity to make that case and make sure that we get over the hump to 270 electoral votes.
