VP Harris’s Husband Tells CBS: ‘Literally, Our Country and Our World Depends on Us Winning This Election’

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, said Sunday that Democrats have to win the election this year because the world “literally depends” on it.

Emhoff was profiled by CBS News national correspondent Rita Braver for this week’s CBS Sunday Morning, during which he spoke about his relationship with Harris, gave policy views, and talked about his experience as the first Second Gentleman.

The profile also focused on the couple’s life in California, and toward the end of the package, Braver asked whether Emhoff ever thinks that it could be okay if they lost and moved back to the state.

“Do you ever think, well, you know, if things don’t work out, we could always move back here and be just fine?” Braver asked.

“We’re going to win this election. We have to win this election,” he said. “Literally. Our country, and our world depends on us winning this election.”

EMHOFF: She’s the toughest person out there.

BRAVER: She’s tough.

EMHOFF: Oh, she’s so tough. It just bounces right off of her.

BRAVER: And as for Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, he is not California Dreamin. Do you ever think, well, you know, if things don’t work out, we could always move back here and be just fine?

EMHOFF: We’re going to win this election. We have to win this election. Literally. Our country, and our world depends on us winning this election. That, that’s – that’s what’s gonna happen.
