‘Are You Kidding Me?’ Hakeem Jeffries Mocks Marjorie Taylor Greene-Led DOGE Committee

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) scoffed at the idea of Democrats joining a new House subcommittee being led by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).

President-elect Donald Trump named Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy as co-heads of an advisory commission called the “Department of Government Efficiency,” or “DOGE,” the name of a nearly worthless meme coin Musk has promoted. In response, congressional Republicans formed the House Delivering on Outstanding Government Efficiency subcommittee to work with the commission in some unknown capacity.

“Are you recommending, by the way, your members join the House equivalent of this committee that they want to create?” she asked. “It’s just not really a real committee.”

“We’ll have that internal discussion,” he replied. “But as I understand it, the person charged with executing this vision is Marjorie Taylor Greene. Are you kidding me? This is not a serious effort when you put Marjorie Taylor Greene in charge. It speaks for itself.”

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) is another Democratic member who entertained the idea that the commission could yield positive results.

“American taxpayers want and deserve the best return on their investment,” he wrote in an op-ed published Tuesday on MSNBC.com. “Let’s put politics aside and work with DOGE to reduce wasteful defense spending. And let’s invest instead in domestic manufacturing, good-paying jobs and a modern national security strategy.”

CORRECTION: This article originally stated that Marjorie Taylor Greene is the head of the House DOGE Caucus. Rather, she will chair the House DOGE subcommittee.
