AOC Blasts Trump’s Tulsi Gabbard Nomination As More ‘Devastating’ Than Matt Gaetz: ‘She Supports Very Pro-War Individuals’
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) told MSNBC on Thursday that President-elect Donald Trump’s nomination of Tulsi Gabbard for director of national intelligence was even more “devastating” than his nomination of Matt Gaetz for attorney general.
After Ocasio-Cortez expressed concerns about Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s nomination as health secretary, MSNBC host Joy Reid said, “And we haven’t even gotten to Tulsi Gabbard potentially having access to national security information, and Russia loves it, loves her.”
“I actually think, almost more than Matt Gaetz, Tulsi Gabbard’s appointment is devastating,” Ocasio-Cortez replied. “And Tulsi Gabbard’s nomination, as much as she says that she’s an anti-war person, she’s not. She supports very pro-war individuals abroad.”
Reid interrupted, “Including Syria!”
“And let’s be very clear. A Tulsi Gabbard nomination is a pro-war nomination globally. Point blank, period,” the congresswoman claimed, prompting Reid to conclude, “As is Donald Trump as president of the United States.”
On Wednesday, Trump announced that Gabbard – a former Democratic congresswoman who joined the Republican Party this year – would be nominated to serve as director of national intelligence in the second Trump administration.
“For over two decades, Tulsi has fought for our Country and the Freedoms of all Americans. As a former Candidate for the Democrat Presidential Nomination, she has broad support in both Parties – She is now a proud Republican!” wrote Trump in a statement. “I know Tulsi will bring the fearless spirit that has defined her illustrious career to our Intelligence Community, championing our Constitutional Rights and securing Peace through Strength.”
