Joy Reid Suggests Trump Will Deport People Who Are in the U.S. Legally: ‘If You’re Brown, You Might Not Stick Around’
MSNCB’s Joy Reid suggested President-Elect Donald Trump could deport American citizens or legal immigrants when he takes office if they are non-White on Friday evening.
Reid said Trump’s day-one vow to carry out the largest deportation operation in the history of the country would inevitably result in people with darker skin pigmentation being expelled.
During a conversation about Trump’s Tuesday election victory with Ali Velshi and author and reporter David Cay Johnston, Johnston said some people who are in the country legally will inevitably be forcefully removed.
“That’s going to come true,” he said. “There will be American citizens who will end up being deported because they’re not going to do this with precision. They’re going to do it. That’s right – meat ax approach.”
Reid responded:
With the meat ax approach and also with de-naturalization. Meaning don’t think because you have a green card and came through the right way. If you’re brown, you may not stick around. I don’t think they care whether you have a green card or not. They’re pulling people out and taking people out of this country, whether they like it or not, Ali, or whether you voted for them or not. Surprise.
Trump said this week he would spare no expense while removing millions of undocumented migrants who entered the country under the Biden administration.
“It’s not a question of a price tag. It’s not — really, we have no choice,” he said. “When people have killed and murdered, when drug lords have destroyed countries, and now they’re going to go back to those countries because they’re not staying here. There is no price tag.”
Reid grabbed headlines on Thursday when she said Hispanic men who voted for Trump would “own” his administration’s immigration policies:
Also, Latino men, who, despite the utter disrespect shown by Trump and his promise to deport some of your mixed-status families, most of them voted in a 55% majority to make the deportations happen. Y’all voted with Stephen Miller and David Duke and against your own sisters, who chose Kamala Harris with 60% of their votes. So, you own everything that happens to your mixed-status families and to your wives, sisters, and abuelas from here on in.
