Joy Reid Scolds Latino Men Who Voted for Trump: ‘You Own Everything That Happens to Your Mixed-Status Families’
Joy Reid had some pointed words for Latino men who voted for President-Elect Donald Trump in Tuesday’s election, stating that they will own whatever befalls any undocumented relatives they have living in the U.S.
Trump soundly defeated Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday in part by over-performing his previous showings among Latino voters. Specifically, Latino men broke for Trump 55% to 43%. The former president made immigration a key plank in his platform by promising mass deportations of undocumented immigrants because, he said, they are turning the U.S. into “a garbage can.”
On Thursday’s edition of The ReidOut on MSNBC, the host cycled through some exit polls showing how Trump fared among various demographics.
“While 91% of Black women voted for Kamala Harris, 53% of White women overall voted for Trump despite the open disrespect and demonization hurled by JD Vance and the Supreme Court stripping women’s bodily autonomy, courtesy of Donald Trump,” Reid said. The host also noted that Trump won every age grouping of men.
Reid then noted that a majority of Latino men voted for Trump:
Also, Latino men, who, despite the utter disrespect shown by Trump and his promise to deport some of your mixed-status families, most of them voted in a 55% majority to make the deportations happen. Y’all voted with Stephen Miller and David Duke and against your own sisters, who chose Kamala Harris with 60% of their votes. So, you own everything that happens to your mixed-status families and to your wives, sisters, and abuelas from here on in.
Reid added, “However, we only have so much time for blame.”
Miller was a White House adviser to Trump and perhaps the most hawkish official when it came to immigration. Duke is a former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan who served in the Louisiana House of Representatives. Though Duke previously supported Trump, this time he backed Green Party nominee Jill Stein.
“Although Dr. Stein and I obviously have our differences on important issues, she’s the only candidate who speaks clearly against the war in the Middle East,” he said last month.
