Joy Reid Blames ‘Fascist Groundswell — Mainly Among White Men’ for Trump’s Recent Surge in the Polls

MSNBC’s Joy Reid chalked up former President Donald Trump’s recent positive polling to a “fascist groundswell” among men, as well as a “disinformation campaign” that she claimed could be used to feed conspiracy theories about the election results.

On Monday’s ReidOut, Reid pointed to a number of recent polls showing Trump’s support among Latino and Black voters growing compared to 2016 and 2020. A Siena College/New York Times survey found Trump’s support among Hispanic voters has grown compared to past election cycles, while Vice President Kamala Harris is polling lower compared to Democrats in previous elections, though she is still leading among the voter group.

Reid claimed the support is coming from men and is part of a “global phenomenon” responding to women becoming “more economically independent and seek positions of power.”

She said:

Have you noticed how sharply the polls have shifted in Trump’s favor over these last couple weeks? With these claims that Trump is surging with Black and Latino voters and leading in every single swing state according to secret internal polls despite all the Hitler talk? Yes. This race will be far too close. Because unfortunately we do have a fascist ground swell in parts of this country, mainly among white men, let’s be clear, but in small pockets among Black and brown men too. This happens to be a global phenomenon, as women become more economically independent and seek positions of power.

Reid also suggested though that the polling is part of a “disinformation” campaign, citing political strategist Simon Rosenberg noting that a number of recent polls out of the swing state Pennsylvania have “right/GOP affiliations.”

The MSNBC host went on to lay out a conspiracy theory where “right wing polls” are “dumped” into the marketplace to make Trump’s victory seem inevitable and to feed future potential conspiracies that the election was stolen. Reid called this the more “sinister explanation” for Trump’s polling surges.

“That if Trump, Republican pollsters, and even jittery Democrats convince enough people that his victory is inevitable, how much easier would it be to claim the election was stolen if he loses? And how much easier would it be to get his base to rise up and maybe even get violent the way they did when he lost the last time?” she said.
