Hugh Hewitt Claims NBC News Engaged in ‘Infliction of Mental Distress’ by Firing Ronna McDaniel

Conservative commentator Hugh Hewitt predicted on Tuesday that former Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel would sue NBC News for “intentional infliction of mental distress” after the network reversed its decision to hire her following internal and external backlash.

Reacting to the news on Fox News’ Special Report, Hewitt told host Bret Baier, “Ronna is a friend, and I did work for NBC…”

He then said:

I have never seen anything this brutal since I got started in media in 1990. Ronna is going to sue everyone who defamed her, for breach of contract, for intentional infliction of mental distress. They are going to sue for the destruction of her business opportunities that come from being on TV. I think they made a terrible decision, and they allowed the MSNBC bleed to take over their network.

Hewitt concluded, “The cult has taken over the news division and it’s gonna hurt. The 74 million people who voted for Donald Trump are not gonna watch NBC News.”

NBCU News Group Chairman Cesar Conde announced on Tuesday evening that following backlash, the company would no longer be moving forward with its decision to hire McDaniel as a contributor.

“After listening to the legitimate concerns of many of you, I have decided that Ronna McDaniel will not be an NBC News contributor,” Conde declared. “No organization, particularly a newsroom, can succeed unless it is cohesive and aligned. Over the last few days, it has become clear that this appointment undermines that goal.”

NBC News’ decision to hire McDaniel, just weeks after she resigned from her position as chair of the RNC, was condemned by several on-air personalities at both NBC News and MSNBC this week, including Rachel Maddow, Chuck Todd, Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, Lawrence O’Donnell, and Jen Psaki.

Former President Donald Trump reacted to the situation on Tuesday with a swipe at McDaniel, who was replaced at the RNC by Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump.

“She only lasted two days, and this after McDaniel went out of her way to say what they wanted to hear,” wrote Trump. “It leaves her in a very strange place, it’s called NEVER NEVERLAND, and it’s not a place you want to be.”
