Even though Nikki Haley has vowed her presidential campaign is not over yet, a new report says the Republican National Committee has already taken steps towards recognizing Donald Trump as the GOP’s presumptive nominee for 2024.

It was shortly after Trump won New Hampshire’s primary vote on Tuesday that RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel put a fork in Haley’s campaign by saying it was time for the party to consolidate forces behind Trump. The Dispatch obtained a draft resolution proposed by Trump-allied RNC committeeman David Bossie, and it recognizes the former president as the nominee again.

“It is imperative for the welfare of all Americans that President Trump defeat President Biden this November and that all efforts and resources from patriots nationwide be exclusively focused on that and Republican victories down the ballot,” the draft states. “Resolved that the Republican National Committee hereby declares President Trump as our presumptive 2024 nominee for the office of President of the United States and from this moment forward moves into full general election mode welcoming supporters of all candidates as valued members of Team Trump 2024.”

As The Dispatch notes, Trump still has to win the requisite number of 1,215 nominating convention delegates, though the resolution is passable under the RNC’s rules, and doing so would expedite the process with which the Republican establishment would fall in behind Trump. Haley’s team has been rejecting the RNC’s early efforts to declare Trump the primary winner, and campaign spokeswoman Olivia Perez-Cubas reacted to the draft by saying “Who cares what the RNC says?”

We’ll let millions of Republican voters across the country decide who should be our party’s nominee, not a bunch of Washington insiders. If Ronna McDaniel wants to be helpful she can organize a debate in South Carolina, unless she’s also worried that Trump can’t handle being on the stage for 90 minutes with Nikki Haley.
