This is ‘Who He is’: CNN’s Dana Bash Plays Brutal Mash Up of Stephen Miller’s Policy Beliefs

Shortly after Stephen Miller was announced as President-elect Donald Trump’s deputy chief of staff for policy Monday, CNN’s Dana Bash played clips of Miller demonstrating “who he is, what he says, and what he believes.”

The first clip opened with Miller shouting, “America is for Americans and Americans only!” before cutting to a more subdued clip where he explains his deportation “policy objectives”:

You have two policy objectives that you proceed with utter determination on. Seal the border. No illegals in, everyone here goes out. That’s very straightforward. You would establish large-scale staging grounds for removal flights, so you would grab illegal immigrants and move them to staging grounds, and that’s where the planes are waiting for federal law enforcement to move those illegals home. You deputize the National Guard to carry out immigration enforcement.

“I remember when Stephen Miller was press secretary to then-Senator Jeff Sessions,” Bash said. “This is exactly what he would say over and over again, anytime you would pick up the phone and he would call. At the time he was definitely not where the party was. Now he is, and those policies, they are the Republican Party.”

Miller’s belief system has been described as White Nationalist, although he is of Jewish descent.

Josh Dawsey with The Washington Post weighed in:

Stephen has always had the ear of the president. He often writes for the president-elect…the rallies are coming in Stephen’s voice, a lot of it. He sort of understands where Trump’s gonna go. He’s his id on immigration. And, really, he’s one of the most influential people in the first Trump administration behind the scenes on basically his entire immigration agenda, and I think that only grows here.

Of Donald Trump’s tumultuous staffing issues during his first term, Bash said, “For somebody who has had people come and go, and people who were kind of dismissed, and people who were let back, some were never let back in, [Miller has] been a constant.”
