CNN’s John King Warns Biden He Needs ‘To Be Careful’ with Positive Economy Talk: Voters ‘Don’t Like Being Told They’re Wrong’

John King warned President Joe Biden about praising the economy, arguing he sounded like “someone from Washington telling Americans they’re “wrong” in an interview with the network.

In a CNN interview on Wednesday, the president pushed back on polling suggesting Americans are concerned with the economy and inflation. The president declared that the survey data “has been wrong all along.”

“Let me say it this way – when I started this administration, people were saying there’s going to be a collapse to the economy. We have the strongest economy in the world. Let me say it again – in the world,” Biden said.

On CNN on Thursday, King reacted to the clip of Biden and warned Biden to be “careful.”

“I can tell you from my travels, eight months now, nine states, he has to be careful with that. In a sense, he is right. When he cites the statistics, he is right. When he cites the Michigan Consumer Confidence Survey, 65% say they’re better off, guess what? The other 35%, a lot of those are his voters,” King said.

The reporter added later that “inflation drag is still a giant in America.”

No matter your party affiliation, King argued, voters don’t like being told they’re wrong.

“The president has to be careful here. That sounds like someone in Washington telling people, ‘you’re wrong,’ and whatever your party is, voters don’t process it that way,” he aid. “They don’t like that.”

Biden acknowledged in the interview that Americans have “good reason” to be worried about the impact of inflation, and he took a shot at his likely November competition, Donald Trump.

“He’s never succeeded in creating jobs, and I’ve never failed,” the president said. “When has he even done anything he said? I’m not being facetious. Think about it.”
