David Axelrod Advises Biden Campaign to ‘Pay to Have Every American See the CPAC Convention’ to Showcase GOP Craziness

Former Obama adviser David Axelrod said if there were a way to show every American the worst excesses of the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, President Joe Biden and some other Democrats wouldn’t have to sweat as much about November’s elections.

This year’s installment of the gathering has brought forth a Jan. 6-themed pinball machine, “woke tears” bottled water, dresses peppered with images of Donald Trump, and other MAGA kitsch.

CNN’s John King addressed the state of CPAC while guest-hosting Friday’s AC360.

“It’s Trump PAC now,” he said. “I remember CPAC many years ago was something very different. They have a pinball game there, a pinball machine with January 6 conspiracies in it.”

King noted that one of the CPAC speakers was Jeffrey Clark, the former Department of Justice official who told Trump he could stay in power after losing the 2020 presidential election. Clark is currently under indictment in Georgia over the scheme to overturn the state’s election results. The host aired a clip of Clark speaking at the conference.

“I was the only leader in the Justice Department who wanted to investigate the 2020 election with energy and drive, and to look at all of the possible problems with that election,” Clark said before rattling off a series of unfounded claims about the contest.

King asked Axelrod “how helpful” such claims are when it comes to winning a general election. Axelrod responded:

If I were the Biden campaign, I would pay to have every American see the CPAC convention because the thing that has been thwarting Republicans in the midterms and since, has been this impression of the Republican Party as an extreme party. Yesterday, you had someone stand up at the CPAC convention as a speaker and basically talk about, “We almost toppled democracy on January 6. We’re going to do it now with this.”

And he held up a cross, basically advocating for theocracy. This is not the image that the Republican Party wants.

Axelrod was referring to Trump booster and conspiracy theorist Jack Posobiec, who on Thursday told CPAC attendees, “We didn’t get all the way there on January 6th, but we will endeavor to get rid of it and replace it with this right here.”
