‘Where Is Donald Trump?’ CNN’s Dana Bash Calls Out Former President’s Jim Jordan Endorsement As Speaker Chaos Deepens
CNN’s Dana Bash called out former President Donald Trump’s deafening silence as the man he endorsed, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), appeared to lose a humiliating third vote for speaker of the House.
“John King brought this up, and we were talking about this off camera, and I think it’s important to underscore: Donald Trump endorsed Jim Jordan. Where is Donald Trump right now?” Bash asked during coverage of the House vote.
“Jordan’s probably asking himself that same question,” interjected CNN contributor Scott Jennings.
“I’ve never heard this sound of silence so loud as this moment when it comes to Donald Trump and his endorsement of Jim Jordan,” Bash said.
Trump endorsed Jordan to replace Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as House speaker two weeks ago in a lengthy Truth Social post. The former president’s post said in part:
Congressman Jim Jordan has been a STAR long before making his very successful journey to Washington, D.C., representing Ohio’s 4th Congressional District. Respected by all, he is now Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. As President, I had the honor of presenting Jim with our Country’s highest civilian award, The Presidential Medal of Freedom…He is STRONG on Crime, Borders, our Military/Vets, & 2nd Amendment. Jim, his wife, Polly, & family are outstanding – He will be a GREAT Speaker of the House, & has my Complete & Total Endorsement!
“(Trump) not inserting himself here is, it is really stunning honestly,” Jennings said. “I mean, these are his biggest supporters, the people who say, ‘This is the direction that the party has to go.’ You know, when Donald Trump says jump, they say, ‘How high?’ Now they’re looking back over their shoulder, and he is nowhere to be found. It’s fascinating.”
“This is a big defeat for Donald Trump,” agreed CNN contributor and former GOP Rep. Charlie Dent.
Earlier, John King gave his take, saying, “I don’t want to overstate this, but this is also a loss for Donald Trump. Jim Jordan has his complete and total endorsement. In Washington, Trump’s base is in the House Republican conference, and again, the people who are voting against — many of the people voting against Jordan were not Trump people to begin with. But Donald Trump is the most dominant person in the Republican party, but he is simply less dominant than he was before.”
“He’s not weighing in on this right now,” agreed contributor Jamie Gangel.
“Because he knows he’s losing,” King answered.
