‘Sorry To Embarrass You, Donald’: Kinzinger Fires Back at Trump for Threatening To Imprison J6 Committee Members
Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger said he is not intimidated by threats of retribution from President-elect Donald Trump.
Kinzinger served on the House Jan. 6 committee that investigated Trump’s role in fomenting violence at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. After losing the 2020 election, Trump falsely claimed the contest was rigged against him and tried to pressure officials in states he lost to subvert their results. He later held a rally in Washington, D.C. that turned into the Capitol riot. Trump has vowed to pardon many of those convicted in connection with the riot and has floated the idea of prosecuting the members of the committee.
“Honestly, they should go to jail,” he told Meet the Press in an interview that aired this week.
Trump has also nominated Kash Patel as FBI director. Last year, Patel said of Trump’s “deep state” enemies, “We’re going to come after you.”
Kinzinger joined Thursday’s edition of The Source, where host Kaitlan Collins asked Kinzinger if he’s concerned.
“Just in the face of him saying that people like you – members of the January 6th investigative committee – belong in jail, I mean, it’s a pretty striking split screen.
The former lawmaker replied:
As I’ve said, fine, whatever, if you gotta make up charges. I was in the legislative branch. We were investigating, as per the request from Congress to do that. We obviously came up with answers that embarrassed Trump. He was embarrassed by it. It showed that he was completely complicit for 187 minutes while violence happened. He frankly wanted his vice president to be– to have violence against him. And that was embarrassing for the president.
Sorry to embarrass you, Donald, but that’s what we were tasked with, was the truth. And history books will record this as the truth. You wanna threaten to throw us in jail for that? It just shows how small of a person you really are. I’m not intimidated. The person that intimidates me the least of anybody in this country is Donald Trump.
