USMNT’s Tyler Adams Might Have Scored the Single Most Impressive Goal in US History Vs. Mexico

U.S. soccer history may have been made Sunday evening when Tyler Adams hit an absolute SCREAMER of a goal from well outside the penalty box during first half stoppage time in the Nations Cup final against Mexico.

Adams plays for the Premier League side Bournemouth as a defensive midfielder but has spent most of this past season nursing an injured hamstring. The captain of the US Men’s National Team returned for the CONCACAF Nations Cup, and it’s fair to say his return to play was highlighted by the mother of all highlights.

In the first minute of stoppage time, following a corner kick, Adams called for the ball from fellow midfielder Weston McKennie. Adams was given an enormous amount of space by El Tri because, really, who would try to pull off such a shot from 30 yards out? Well, Tyler Fucking Adams would, and he did and made Mexico keeper Memo Ochoa look foolish in the process. But not nearly as silly as Edson Alvarez, who was NUTMEGGED on a goal from 30 yards out.

In the pantheon of great goals for the US Men’s team, this is right near the top, next to Benny Feilhaber’s chip against Mexico during the 2007 Gold Cup final and Jermaine Jones’s goal against Portugal in the 2014 World Cup. Of course, Landon Donovan’s late winner against Algeria, which got the US to advance to the knockout stages, is probably the sentimental favorite, but none of these have anything on Adams’s thunderstrike in Dallas.

Adams made national news during the past World Cup for deftly handling an Iranian reporter’s pressing series of questions. He is also reportedly a lifelong Arsenal supporter, so he has that going for him and evidence of pure spirit and excellent judgment.

Take a bow, son!
