‘Just Stunning!!!’ Iconic Photo Of Kamala Harris And Great Niece Amara During DNC Speech Goes Viral

An instantly iconic photo of Vice President Kamala Harris and her grand-niece went viral as Harris gave a speech officially accepting the Democratic presidential nomination.

The Democratic National Convention (DNC) entered its final hours Thursday night, with anticipation high for Vice President Kamala Harris — and maybe another surprise guest.

Alas, a Beyoncé appearance was not in the cards, but another duo stole the show ahead of the VP’s big speech — Harris’s great-nieces Amara and Leela.

Appearing with actress Kerry Washington, the girls gave the audience — and one viewer in particular — a tutorial on how to pronounce their history-making great aunt’s name:

WASHINGTON: Confusion is understandable. Disrespect is not. So tonight, we are going to help everyone get it right.

AMARA: First you say ‘Kama,’ like a comma in a sentence,” Amara said.

LEELA: Then you say ‘La,’ like ‘la-la-la-la-la’

WASHINGTON: Put it together and it’s Kamala!

And later, during the vice president’s acceptance speech, Amara starred in a stirring photo by New York Times Staff Photographer Todd Heisler that caught fire and earned Pulitzer buzz on X/Twitter:
