Donald Trump’s Georgia election interference case was paused on Wednesday as an appeals court in the state considers whether or not to disqualify DA Fani Willis – who brought criminal charges against Trump and 14 co-defendants regarding their efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election in the state.
Trump is appealing a judge’s ruling that Willis could remain on the case after being accused of having an improper relationship with one of the prosecutors in her office.
Reuters noted that the order pausing the case “is another indication that the case, one of four facing Trump as he seeks to unseat President Joe Biden and return to the White House, will not go to trial before the Nov. 5 election.”
Trump and eight of his co-defendants have sought to disqualify Willis, which resulted in a fiery hearing early this year in which Willis defended herself on the stand and won the motion.
Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee is prevented from addressing any further pre-trial motions following the appeal’s court decision.
