Billionaire Bill Ackman Expected to Back Trump After Supporting Opponents Like Nikki Haley: Report
Billionaire Bill Ackman is expected to back Donald Trump in November’s presidential election, according to a new report.
The Financial Times first reported the news, citing a person familiar with Ackman’s thinking on the matter of an endorsement. Ackman previously backed Nikki Haley in the GOP primary race where Trump quickly overshadowed her support. The FT reported that Ackman is expected to publicly endorse Trump through X, formerly Twitter.
Ackman also threw support behind President Joe Biden’s brief Democratic challenger in the primaries, Dean Phillips, but the FT reported Ackman is not interested in any long-shot candidates for the White House, such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Ackman’s backing would follow fellow Wall Street billionaire Stephen Schwarzman also endorsing the former president. Ackman’s dislikes the current president more than he is “ambivalent” towards Trump, according to the new report. Ackman and Biden have had a tense relationship in the past.
“Wall Street always wants to pick winners and most people think Trump is going to win — very simple,” one banker told the FT.
