Emily Thornberry Admits She ‘Smoked Dope’ At University, Laughs Off ‘Obsession’ With Drug Use After Keir Starmer Interview
Shadow Attorney General Emily Thornberry openly confessed to having “smoked dope” at university after LBC host Nick Ferrari playfully put the same question to her Friday that had been asked of Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer.
Ferrari asked the politician about whether she’d taken drugs at university in the wake of The Sun’s interview with Starmer, who squirmed in his seat and refused to answer the same question posed by the newspaper’s political editor Harry Cole seven times in an interview Thursday.
While Starmer was closed about the subject Thornberry was open, laughed off the question and admitted she had smoked marijuana at university “many decades ago.”
Ferrari: “Emily Thornberry, did you do drugs at university?”
Thornberry: “Yeah, I smoked dope.”
Ferrari: “Does it matter?”
Thornberry: “That’s up to the public, really. I mean, it was a long time ago.”
Ferrari: “What do you make of this occasional obsession? What do you make of this occasional obsession, journalists, and whether politicians should smoke dope or other drugs?”
Thornberry: “I don’t know. Listen, it’s…”
Ferrari: “When’s the last time you had a split, Emily Thornberry?”
Thornberry: “And, you know, I am myself. I am myself, and there’s no point…”
Ferrari: “And we love you for that, but just lastly, when did you last light up a joint, Emily Thornberry?”
Thornberry: “I can’t remember. Back at uni. Many decades ago, is all I can say. You’re talking to a very old lady here.”
Ferrari: “No, you’re not.”
