The grieving father of murdered transgender teenager Brianna Ghey publicly demanded an apology from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak Wednesday, expressing his outrage over a jibe made about trans people during Prime Minister’s Questions.

Sunak was criticising Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer for reversing his stance on different policy positions, saying he had u-turned on “defining a woman, although, in fairness, that was only 99 per cent of a U-turn.” The attack was immediately rebuked as crass by Starmer, who pointed out that Ghey’s mother was present in the gallery.

Ghey’s father, Peter Spooner, labelled the Sunak’s comments during the parliamentary session as “degrading” and “absolutely dehumanising.”

Speaking to Sky News, Spooner said: “As the prime minister for our country to come out with degrading comments like he did, regardless of them being in relation to discussions in parliament, they are absolutely dehumanising. Identities of people should not be used in that manner, and I personally feel shocked by his comments and feel he should apologise for his remarks.”

Ghey, who was 16-year-old, was lured to a public park and stabbed 28 times with a hunting knife in February 2023 by two other teenagers. The case was so horrific that the judge made the extraordinary decision to name the two murderers during sentencing this week: Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe. The pair were sentenced to life in prison.
