Brian Kilmeade Reveals Top Trump Official Said Pete Hegseth’s Embattled Nomination is Now ‘Looking Good’
According to Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade, a “top Trump official” claimed that Pete Hegseth’s embattled nomination for Secretary of Defense is now “looking good.”
Hegseth is the former Fox & Friends Weekend co-host who also hosted Fox Nation’s Patriot Awards. After getting nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to run the Defense Department, however, Hegseth’s working relationship with Fox News immediately ended, and several damaging stories about a sexual assault investigation, extramarital affairs, and work-related drinking have come to light, raising serious questions if he has the votes to get confirmed.
As Mediaite’s Diana Falzone reported, Hegseth received Trump’s blessing to change the narrative around his nomination with a press tour of conservative media outlets, which Team Trump believed was working. On Friday morning’s Fox & Friends — following Thursday’s Patriot Awards at which Trump received an award and spoke — Kilmeade shared a sentiment similar to that of someone with Team Trump but did not cite the name of his source.
“We talked to a high-ranking Trump official last night,” Kilmeade said before Ainsley Earhardt jokingly asked, “Which one?” “I’ll try to mention. If I can get permission,” Kilmeade replied before returning to his report. “And Pete’s looking good. Yeah, Pete has made huge progress yesterday as Secretary of Defense.”
“You know why? Because he’s saying what he represents,” Kilmeade added. “They get a chance to see him, not the anonymous reporting. And as Will Cain brought up yesterday if you want to do a balanced story, call us. Yeah, you got the negativity. At least make the phone call and say, is this the one person you know? And then focus on his book and what he stands for and debate that.”
“After Pete’s mom came on and said, ‘He’s a different man now. He’s my son. And I know that,'” Earhardt added. “And I will tell you. He’s a changed man. And then, after so many people at Fox that have worked with him over the last seven years and more have vouched for him, and we all know him, and we know that he loves the Lord, his Lord, and Savior Jesus Christ. He and Jen have a beautiful relationship, and that is the center of their relationship.”
“And the president told me 100% he’s behind him,” added Lawrence Jones.
“It just comes down to math,” Steve Doocy noted. “He cannot lose four Republican senators. And it’s close.”
