The Daily Show Mocks Fox & Friends For Defending ‘Indefensible’ Trump Hitler Remarks: ‘Did You Just Whatever’ The Holocaust?’
The Daily Show host Michael Kosta mocked Fox & Friends anchor Brian Kilmeade for defending the “indefensible” in running flank for former President Donald Trump’s reported remarks about Nazi German dictator Adolf Hitler.
On Tuesday, the New York Times released audio of Trump’s ex-chief of staff, Ret. Gen. John Kelly claiming that the former president told him previously that Hitler “did some good things.” The Trump campaign later denied the claims. The same day The Atlantic ran a story claiming that in a private conversation when in office, speaking of loyalty within his administration, Trump said: “I need the kind of generals that Hitler had.”
During Wednesday’s Fox & Friends, Kilmeade attempted to rationalize the comments about Hitler’s generals, which became a point of mockery for Kosta that night.
Kosta began: “This is pretty indefensible stuff. And when Trump does something truly indefensible, you can always count on Fox News to defend it.”
The comedian ran back the clip from Fox & Friends in which Kilmeade said: “It’s your job to do what the president wants. And I could absolutely see him go, ‘You know what, it would be great to have German generals that actually do what we ask them to do,’ knowing that — maybe not fully being cognizant of the third rail of German generals were Nazis, whatever.”
Returning to The Daily Show studio, Kosta unleashed on Kilmeade: “Okay, okay. Did you just ‘whatever’ the Holocaust?”
He continued: “’Whatever’ is for insignificant things, like when you put the plastic recycling in the paper recycling. It’s not ‘Oops, I did a genocide.’ I like that Kilmeade thinks praising Hitler is a ‘third rail,’ like it’s a taboo subject that’s not PC to discuss at the office anymore. ‘Ugh, you can’t even compliment a woman’s haircut or tell her about the good things Hitler did anymore. Thanks, woke police.’”
Kosta then amusingly points to Kilmeade’s co-host Steve Doocy, who appears to squirm on the studio couch as his colleague continued to push his take.
