Fox’s Lawrence Jones Reports Trump Not Bothered By Taunts ‘Elon Musk Is the President’ — Insists Musk Tweet Came from Trump
Fox & Friends co-host Lawrence Jones spoke to President-elect Donald Trump Thursday night about ongoing government drama and Congress’s inability to pass a spending bill to avoid a shutdown and reported that the president-elect is not bothered by Democratic taunts that Elon Musk is the President.
The House of Representatives failed to pass a spending bill to keep the federal government funded beyond Dec. 21. The vote was 174-235, with 38 Republicans voting against. Passage required approval from two-thirds of voting members because Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) fast-tracked the legislation by bypassing the House Rules Committee.
Hours earlier, President-elect Trump urged Republicans to vote in favor of the 116-page legislation, though that effort was unsuccessful.
Jones has fostered a close relationship with Trump over the past year and spoke to Trump, the details of which he reported in the 6 AM hour of the morning show he co-hosts.
“I spoke to the president-elect last night around 10 p.m., and .. I asked him about Mike Johnson because he brought this to the floor,” Jones said. “And no one expected this amount of Republicans to vote against it. And he said, ‘I have full confidence in Mike Johnson. He said this (the bill not passing) is not Mike Johnson. The Freedom Caucus blew it up.'”
Jones added that Trump left open a “real possibility” that Trump would go to Washington himself to handle this and that he was “prepared for a shot down.” Trump also asked Jones, “Why am I handling this negotiation when we have a current president and Joe Biden? ”
“The last thing I’ll say on this is because a lot of people are coming out there and saying that Elon Musk is the president-elect,” Jones concluded. “The Democrats have to pick a talking point. Either Donald Trump is going to be a dictator on day one and run everything and ruin the infrastructure of the country. Or he says he’s ceded his power to Elon Musk. It can’t be both.”
Democrats have taken to taunting Trump by repeatedly claiming Elon Musk is running the negotiations as a way to provoke the president-elect.
“But the Musk thing didn’t bother the president?” asked Brian Kilmeade.
“No, it did not bother the president. As I said yesterday, the Musk tweet was a warning shot from the president. They are in lockstep on this. This is why the president appointed him for this commission — him and Vivek — they are doing what the president wants them to do.”
“Well, it all comes down to Musk, and Trump can kill a bill,” chimed in Steve Doocy. “But the question is whether now they can pass the bill. “
