‘It’s Pathetic!’ Anderson Cooper Goes off on Rudy Giuliani for ‘Trying to Game the System’ in Court

CNN’s Anderson Cooper went after former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani for allegedly trying to “game the system” by misrepresenting his assets during a failed attempt to file for bankruptcy this past summer.

Cooper welcomed Jeffrey Toobin to Friday’s AC360 to discuss the former mayor’s bankruptcy case and his surrender of property to two Georgia election workers he defamed. The host called Giuliani’s behavior “pathetic.”

Giuliani’s property became fair game after a bankruptcy judge ruled in August that he had not been transparent about his property and income. The former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York surrendered a vintage Mercedes and a collection of classic watches.

“You know, we have a system in this country for people who can’t pay their debts, and it’s called bankruptcy,” Toobin said. “And it allows you to, you know, save some personal items and pay off what you can and just reorganize your finances and get back on your feet. And Giuliani originally declared bankruptcy. Well, but what he did was he tried to game the system. He wasn’t fully candid with the bankruptcy judge.”

Cooper responded, “He used to be the system. And now, according to this judge, he’s trying to game the system.”

Toobin replied, “I know you’re shocked, Anderson.”

Cooper fired back, “I mean, it’s just pathetic, is what it is!”

Toobin concluded Giuliani’s life fell apart when he aligned himself with President-elected Donald Trump.

“The fall from grace of Rudy Giuliani is one of the amazing stories of the past two decades,” Toobin said. “I mean, you know, I don’t have to remind people, this was ‘America’s Mayor’ after 9/11. This was a very serious candidate for president in 2008, leading in the polls.”
