Colby Hall Openly Roots for Mike Tyson to ‘Slap the Sass’ Out of ‘Total Douchebag’ Jake Paul: ‘Gen Xers Need a Win’

Mediaite Founding Editor Colby Hall did not mince words when it came to choosing sides in the much-hyped heavyweight boxing match taking place between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul.

“It’s a generational battle,” Hall told NewsNation’s Marni Hughes. “You have Mike Tyson, who, at 58 years old, is in the prime of his life, speaking also as a 58-year-old,” Hall said with a smile. “And he’s going up against — I hate to say it — total douchebag, Jake Paul.”

Hall’s categorization of the 27-year-old elicited surprise from Hughes.

“You know, he’s a YouTube influencer,” Hall continued. “And I gotta say, yeah, [Tyson] is older. But the dude is a killer; he’s a proper boxer.”

Paul started making prank videos on YouTube in 2014 and currently has nearly 21 million subscribers.

Hall continued:

Jake Paul has had 11 fights, all have been against stiffs. I really, really hope that Mike Tyson slaps the sass out of this kid. Because, you know, he’s from Shaker Heights, Cleveland. And what’s with this weird accent? And his diamond encrusted — I don’t know. Just, go, Tyson! Please represent Gen Xers. We need a win.

Hall gave his take on the “weigh-in slap” that Tyson dealt to Paul on Thursday.

“You know, the slap…at first, I thought it was hype surrounding it. But, apparently, Tyson told the New York Post he got his toe stepped on. Jake Paul is not a joke, he is a fighter. But he’s never faced someone with, let’s say, the complicated psychology of Mike Tyson. You know, he came from the mean streets of Brooklyn,” Hall said.

Tyson was convicted of raping a woman in the 1990s and served time in prison. He’s also known for biting the ear of challenger Evander Holyfield during a fight in 1996.

Hall said some 100 million people were expected to watch the Friday night fight on Netflix.

“I think it’s nice for the country to sort of unify,” he said. “There’s nothing political about this. It’s a generational thing. We can all, you know, have a beer, order pizza, and watch a boxing match.”

Hughes asked why Tyson would agree to fight Paul in the first place.

“His last fight was 2005. Like, why did he say yes to this?”

“Money!” Hall answered.

Paul is reportedly set to make $40 million for the bout, with Tyson raking in a cool $20 million.

“Those Hangover royalties from his appearance in The Hangover only lasted so long. So, I’m sure that the dude wants and needs the money…Everyone’s got a price,” Hall concluded.
