The New York Times live election needle has an early projection favoring former President Donald Trump winning the electoral college.

The needle launched shortly after 8 p.m. ET — and for more than an hour, showed the race as a toss-up. However, as more votes began coming in from key swing states — including Georgia and North Carolina — the projection moved towards favoring Trump.

The Times electoral college prediction has an early forecast that projects a Trump win with 285 votes to Vice President Kamala Harris at 253 votes.

This is an early projection by the NYT needle and it will continue moving as more votes from battleground states are counted. Votes are still being counted across the rust belt in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan while data in Arizona has not been released at the time of publication.
