Mediaite asked the Monterey Police Department if any charges had been filed; there was no response at the time of this article’s publication.

Vanity Fair’s Gabriel Sherman reported an explosive piece on Thursday that the Trump transition held an emergency meeting with Hegseth after learning about the alleged years-ago incident.

Hegseth’s lawyer, Timothy Parlatore, denied the claim to Vanity Fair, saying, “This allegation was already investigated by the Monterey police department, and they found no evidence for it.”

Steven Cheung, Trump’s communications director, rebuffed the allegations to Vanity Fair. Mediaite also sought comments from the Trump transition team and will update this report upon receiving a response.

“President Trump is nominating high-caliber and extremely qualified candidates to serve in his Administration,” Cheung said, “Mr. Hegseth has vigorously denied any and all accusations, and no charges were filed. We look forward to his confirmation as United States Secretary of Defense so he can get started on Day One to Make America Safe and Great Again.”
