New Year’s Revelers Walking Home From Times Square Struck By Car Fleeing Police

At least nine New Year’s Eve revelers and police officers were injured Sunday after a car fleeing authorities plowed into a crowd just blocks from Times Square.

The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. in the area at 7th Ave. and West 34th St. in midtown Manhattan that was congested with people leaving the New Year’s Eve ball drop in Times Square, The New York Post reported.

Fox News showed video of the crash that led to one woman being pinned underneath a food truck.

“This is just some of the aftermath here in New York City,” said reporter Alexis McAdams, continuing:

Investigators telling us it all started with an argument between the driver and another person in midtown, and when officers went over and tried to break it up, they say the suspect hopped in his car and took off. Investigators say that 44-year-old driver was traveling at a high rate of speed — they didn’t say how fast — hit several cars, and then drove the wrong way.

Overall, he hit at least five people who were walking, and three police officers. The driver is in custody. He was taken into custody… just a short time after this crash, facing serious charges here after police say he drove right into those people walking home from New Year’s Eve celebrations, crashing up onto the sidewalk also, and actually slamming his car at the end into a local restaurant. One point, he also hit a food truck, leaving that 39-year-old woman also pinned underneath the cart. She’s expected to be okay, no major injuries, surprisingly from everything that was going on out here.
