CNN Anchor: U.S. Warns of ‘Extrajudicial Killings’ Abroad By Iran and Russia In Wake of Journalist’s Stabbing In London

Pouria Zeraati

Iranian journalist Pouria Zeraati was stabbed outside his London home on Friday, in what observers noted was an attack likely linked to the Iranian regime. Zeraati, who is in stable condition, works for a broadcast outlet called Iran International, which is banned in Iran and often highlights human rights abuses within the country.

Karim Sadjadpour, an author and friend of Zeraati, noted on X, “This is a wakeup call for US and European officials. Iran is actively trying to kill reporters and activists in the West and nearly succeeded in the middle of London.”

CNN anchor Jim Sciutto added, “Senior U.S. intelligence officials have highlighted this very threat to me: extrajudicial killings abroad by powers such as Iran and Russia, and with increasing impunity.”

London’s Metropolitan Police put out a statement after the attack, saying they are investigating the incident and that Zeraati “has sustained injuries but is in a stable condition.”

“Police were called at 2.49pm on Friday, 29 March to an address in south London after a man in his 30s was attacked and sustained an injury to his leg. London Ambulance Service paramedics attended with police and the man was treated before being taken to hospital. Thankfully his condition is not believed to be life-threatening. A scene is in place and police are working to understand the circumstances. There have been no arrests at this time,” added the statement.
