ESPN Apologizes After Showing a Woman Flashing on Bourbon Street During Sugar Bowl Broadcast

ESPN issued an apology for airing footage of a woman who flashed her breast on camera during the network’s broadcast of the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.

The incident occurred during the third quarter of the game in which Washington beat Texas 37-31. As the broadcast was coming back from commercials, they aired a clip of people walking down Bourbon Street in New Orleans’ French Quarter, and it inadvertently showed a woman who pulled down her top and exposed her right breast.

The prerecorded segment is typical for broadcasts of major sporting events, but after the b-roll managed to slip past the censors, the cleavage was noticed by audiences who spread word about it on social media. ESPN communications director Bill Hofheimer addressed the matter in a statement to the Associated Press, saying “We regret that this happened and apologize that the video aired in the telecast.”

Washington’s victory in the semifinal of the College Football Playoff means they will face Michigan on Jan. 8 to compete for the national championship.
