Eric Trump Tells Fox News the Black Vote Is ‘Swinging Over to Donald Trump In Spades’
Eric Trump claimed on Sunday morning that Black voters are gravitating toward his father Donald Trump, stating that they are “swinging over” to him “in spades.”
The former president’s son used the terminology while insisting his father’s criminal conviction last week will help him among various voting blocs in November. On Thursday, a Manhattan jury found Donald Trump guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. Republicans have slammed the verdict, calling it a partisan travesty while insisting that it will nonetheless vault the ex-president back into the White House.
“Everybody wants to know what this verdict means for the presidential election,” Maria Bartiromo told Eric Trump on Sunday Morning Futures on Fox News. “Will President Trump be able to run and win? Will he be able to do the things that he was planning on doing for the campaign to actually be victorious in November?”
“Well, Maria, as I walked out of that courthouse that day, I said, ‘May 30th, 2024 might be the day that won it for Donald Trump,'” Eric Trump replied. “I’ve never seen this country more upset about what’s happening.”
The former president’s son said the verdict has been a fundraising boon for his father’s campaign and stated that voters will be so troubled by the conviction that they will flock to Trump:
The swing of independent voters after this conviction has been unbelievable because no one believes it. And you know, they’re literally feeding him, you know, certain segments of the population that he might not have had in 2016 and 2020 because for the first time, they realize that the system’s coming down, that he’s the victim. He’s the victim that oftentimes some of their communities were.
And you see them swinging. Look at the African-American vote, right? That’s swinging over to Donald Trump in spades. Look at the Hispanic vote over the last couple years. You know, look at the youth vote right now, Maria. I mean, we’ve never had more youth support out there and people know exactly what’s going on and they want a strong country again.
Eric Trump is not alone in claiming Black people will be more accepting of his father because of the former president’s criminal history. In February, Donald Trump himself told a group of Black conservatives his criminal charges are “why the Black people like me.” The former president did, however, manage to say so without saying “in spades.”
