Kevin Costner Praises Liz Cheney For Taking a Stand Against Trump: She ‘Should Never Be Threatened’
Legendary actor and director Kevin Costner sat down with Michael Smerconish on Monday for the latest episode of his Sirius XM show and discussed his new movie, leaving the hit show Yellowstone, and the current political climate in the U.S.
“I expect people in government to do the right thing. Public service is about public service. It’s not about your career. It’s not about your ego. Your four years is your four years. Get with it,” Costner said as the turned the conversation turned to current events.
He went on to say that he wants to be “popular” in the work he does, but that he values being relevant and taking a moral stance above all else.
“I’m very proud of Liz Cheney,” he added. “I found a person completely at odds with one side willing to stand up. We should applaud her. We should protect her.”
“This woman should never be threatened and neither should anybody that stands up in America, because we admire the people of the Revolutionary War that stood up,” Costner added.
“So when someone stands up — even if we don’t — we can’t let her be vulnerable. As a man, I can’t — I won’t allow it. We shouldn’t allow that,” he concluded.
President-Elect Donald Trump made headlines throughout his presidential run for saying Cheney should face a military tribunal and denouncing her as a hawk by saying, “Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, OK. Let’s see how she feels about it. You know, when the guns are trained on her face.”
Smerconish also asked Costner to weigh in on his character met his end on Yellowstone on Sunday night. “I’m going to be perfectly honest. I didn’t know it was actually airing last night,” Costner replied. “That’s a swear-to-God moment. I’ve been seeing ads with my face all over the place and I’m thinking, ‘Gee, I’m not in that one.’ But I didn’t realize yesterday was the thing.”
Costner left the hit show over scheduling conflicts with his western saga “Horizon,” the second part of which he is currently promoting.
