‘Bless Her Heart’: Mike Johnson Says Marjorie Taylor Greene ‘Not Proving’ to Be a ‘Serious Lawmaker’

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) accused Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) of not being a “serious lawmaker” and he hit her with a “bless her heart” amid the Georgia Republican’s vow to continue with her push to oust him.

Greene previously put forth a motion to vacate, which has now been backed by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ). Johnson has faced backlash within the House from his own conference over pushing forward funding for Ukraine. Democrats said this week, however, that they would back Johnson in a vote to oust him.

In an interview with NewsNation’s Blake Burman for The Hill, Johnson dropped a “bless her heart” at the mention of Greene’s name and the fact that she’s “not a fan.” “Bless your heart” is primarily a southern phrase that can be used to either express genuine gratitude or to politely insult and condescend to someone if you want to avoid vulgar language.

“Is she a serious lawmaker?” Burman asked Johnson about Greene in a clip from an interview that will air in full on NewsNation at 6 p.m. EST on Wednesday.

“I don’t think she’s proving to be, no,” Johnson said. “I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about her. I’ve got to do my job and we do the right thing and we let the chips fall where they may. That’s my philosophy. That’s how we’re governing.”

Ousting the House Speaker so soon after his predecessor Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was ousted would descend the House into “chaos,” Johnson added.

Greene continued her criticism of Johnson during a press conference on Wednesday in which she put a “MUGA” hat on an image of Johnson and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) The congresswoman exclaimed that it stands for, “Make Ukraine Great Again.”
