MSNBC Analyst Says Biden Working to ‘Corner’ Trump In Final Weeks to Mitigate ‘Damage’ He’ll Do: ‘Box Him In’
MSNBC analyst Matthew Dowd said Thursday he believed President Joe Biden was using his final weeks in office to “corner” President-elect Donald Trump in order to mitigate the “damage” he could do to the country.
Dowd joined MSNBC Reports Thursday and was asked by guest host Richard Lui to weigh in on how President Joe Biden is handling his final weeks in the White House.
“Matthew, it’s been a busy week for the president, Liu said. The host noted Biden had commuted the death sentences of 37 of 40 federal death row prisoners and that Biden had been signing other bills into law and also appointing federal judges.
“We’re talking of the commutations that came at the end of last week, but we had many bills signed by the president,” Lui said.
The host asked, “What do you expect to see him do in the next three weeks of lasting effect?” Dowd replied:
I mean, I think he’s what he’s trying to do is trying to corner Donald Trump and sort of box him in so he can do – I think the Biden administration and the president is trying to prevent Donald Trump from doing as much damage as he possibly can could do. Which he could do a lot after becoming president. But I think Joe Biden is trying to box him in on this.
Dowd also defended Biden’s decision to commute the death sentences and concluded, “Donald Trump doesn’t understand the difference between a commutation and a pardon.”
Trump raged at Biden’s commutations in a lengthy Christmas Day Truth Social screed.
“Also, to the 37 most violent criminals, who killed, raped, and plundered like virtually no one before them, but were just given, incredibly, a pardon by Sleepy Joe Biden,” Trump wrote. “I refuse to wish a Merry Christmas to those lucky ‘souls’ but, instead, will say, GO TO HELL! We had the Greatest Election in the History of our Country, a bright light is now shining over the U.S.A. and, in 26 days, we will, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. MERRY CHRISTMAS!”
