Chaos Erupts as Anti-Israel Mob Storms Russian Airport Over Flight From Tel Aviv
An airport in Russia descended into mayhem when a rioting mob of anti-Israel demonstrators stormed the building and the airfield.
The incident took place at Makhachkala International Airport on Sunday night in the North Caucasus Russian Republic of Dagestan. Footage and Russian media reports cited by the Associated Press show that the demonstrators bore Palestinian flags and shouted anti-Semitic statements as they besieged the airliner in the mostly Muslim region.
Reports suggest that the riot broke out in protest of a flight that was arriving there from Tel Aviv. Reuters reported that Rosaviatsia, the Russian aviation authority, sent out an announcement requiring all aircraft bound for Makhachkala to be diverted to other airports.
The AP obtained a statement from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office saying they expect Russian authorities “to protect the safety of all Israeli citizens and Jews wherever they may be and to act resolutely against the rioters and against the wild incitement directed against Jews and Israelis.” Police shut down the airport and it remains unknown whether anyone was injured or arrested amid the unrest.
The incident occurred as the world continues to watch international uproar over the Israel-Hamas war.
