SNL Brings Back Dana Carvey to Skewer Biden: ‘People Forget I’m President, Including Me’
Saturday Night Live brought back veteran former cast member Dana Carvey this weekend to kick off the show’s 50th season, and the former NBC mainstay skewered President Joe Biden amid questions about his age and mental acuity.
Carvey, 69, was featured in Saturday’s cold open, in which Maya Rudolph also returned to the show to reprise her role as Vice President Kamala Harris.
In the episode’s opening sketch, Carevey’s Biden was welcomed to a Harris-Walz podium by Rudolph’s Harris.
“Folks, that’s right, a lot of people forget I’m president, including me,” said Carvey. “But guess what, and by the way, I think I – I did a pretty good job.” Slurring at times and at one point whispering. Carvey continued:
I passed more bills than any president in history. But folks, we’ve still got more work to do. No joke. I’m being serious right now, come on. And guess what – by the way – and the fact of the matter is, the rich don’t pay their fair share. They’ve got to pay their fair share. We’ve got to build back better. We build back the better, the bet – I can’t believe it’s not butter!
Rudolph’s Harris attempted to rush Carvey’s Biden offstage, but he interjected, claiming he was forced out of the 2024 presidential race.
“Thank you, J’Biden. Thank you for putting country first and by handing over the reins,” she said.
“I didn’t want to. They made me, and guess what, and by the way, the fact of the matter is, no joke – this is serious – right now, I’m being serious. Anyway, in closing, me and Vice President Harris are the same,” Carvey said.
Carevey’s Biden was quickly ushered away by Harris.
SNL also brought in comedian and actor Jim Gaffigan to play the role of Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz and show alum Andy Samberg to play the role of Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff.
