LA Times Owner Spoke With Rob Schneider About Creating a ‘MAGA-Friendly’ Version of ‘The View’: Report

The owner of the Los Angeles Times, Patrick Soon-Shiong, reportedly spoke with actor and comedian Rob Schneider about creating a “MAGA-friendly” version of ABC’s The View last month following President-elect Donald Trump’s election victory.

Former CNN senior media reporter Oliver Darcy reported in his Status newsletter Thursday that Soon-Shiong held a “special meeting” with Schneider and Cheryl Hines – the wife of Trump Health Secretary appointee Robert F. Kennedy Jr. – at the Los Angeles Times headquarters in El Segundo, during which Schneider brought up his idea for a new show.

“Schneider had thought up an idea to create a conservative answer to ‘The View,'” reported Darcy, who added that the actor “had spoken with Soon-Shiong about possibly partnering on the effort.”

Schneider announced the launch of No Apologies Media last month and said the company would develop “an all-ladies talk show that won’t be like the The View.”

He told Fox News, “It’ll be the opposite because this will be entertaining, it’ll be funny. We’ll have funny women on it, they’re gonna tell jokes and have funny stories and health and wellness.”

Schneider said the lineup for the show would include “household names,” but would not “drown” people in politics like The View.

While it is not clear whether Soon-Shiong has any part in Schneider’s company, the Los Angeles Times owner has made several moves over the past few months to align his newspaper more with President-elect Donald Trump’s base.

In October, Soon-Shiong blocked the Los Angeles Times editorial board from endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for president, prompting several staffers to quit in protest.

Weeks later, Soon-Shiong made an appearance on Fox News, where he spoke about wanting to create “balance” in his newspaper before hiring CNN conservative commentator and former Bush administration staffer Scott Jennings as a member of the editorial board.

Last month, Soon-Shiong also reportedly killed a Los Angeles Times op-ed on Trump’s cabinet and instructed the editorial board to “take a break from writing” about the president-elect.
